Unnecto Air 5.0 Review!!!

SAMSUNG CSC[ad#co-1]

Budget and mid-tier have been a combination in the industry that has been difficult to tackle. Device’s like the One Plus One, and the recently reviewed Blu Vivo Air are slowly but surely starting to reveal themselves in a greater light. Many have not heard of Unnecto, myself included, but that’s not really important. What’s important is what Unnecto is trying to do in the budget Android smartphone market. The Unnecto Air 5.0 is a dual sim GSM unlocked Android budget device that deserves to be mentioned amongst the ever growing crowd of Android smartphones.

The Unnecto Air 5.0 is a 720pHD 5 inch, quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 ghz, 12 megapixel camera budget device. That’s a mouthful but this device truly has those specs in a sub $150 price tag. My first impressions of the Air 5.0 was how slim and light it is. In comparison, it’s very similar to the size profile of the aforementioned Blu Vivo Air. The Air mantra truly fits with this budget device. Inside the box, you get the general micro USB charging cable and power adapter; and even some headphones (sub par, below average). But the fact that you get more in the box than most flagship devices speaks volumes of what Unnecto is trying to accomplish.

Display

The display of the Unnecto Air 5.0 is truly a highlight of the device. Like one of our great viewers of Booredatwork, “it has better viewing angles than my Xperia Z”. The viewing angles, clarity and non-pixilation of the display stand out on the Air 5.0. Unfortunately, there is a caveat to the great display; responsiveness. There are times throughout the OS where touches don’t register, scrolling is sporadic, and times where it is too sensitive. This may just be a software issue and not hardware based. I’m hoping that this is the case, so that in the future your investment in the Air 5.0 may only get better.

OS

The Unnecto Air 5.0 is running a stock version of Android. There is literally no customization other than a few random options in the settings menu. That’s definitely a positive as it helps minimize bloat ware and help the device run smoothly. Even though Android 4.4 is considered old, it stills pleasing to use. I wouldn’t hope for an upgrade to lollipop 5.0 anytime soon, if ever, but for what it’s worth, I had no issues using Kit-kat on the device.

Camera

Don’t let the 12 megapixel attribute fool you, it’s an average camera. But for that price point, it’s more than anyone can ask for. The camera even records video at 60fps! Don’t even think about transferring it to your computer as the codec gets screwed once that happens. However, media on the device runs pretty smooth without a hitch. The camera features are bare bones with a touch of cool selfie and photo effects. I rarely ever use these gimmicky features, but for anyone who likes them, they are there. Another plus you can add to the camera is the ability to transfer photos to a usb hard drive via the USB-to-Go built-in feature. Unnecto is really adding useful features to the overall package. Most companies have no clue how to add usability to budget devices without seeming overly idiotic. Most flagship devices don’t even have this feature, so kudos to Unnecto for doing their due diligence.

Battery

Battery life is SUPERB on the Unnecto Air 5.0. The astounding part about it is that there is only a 1900mah battery pack powering it. I’ve been on record getting a cool 4-5 days of use per charge out of the Air 5.0. Android Kitkat combined with some obvious tweaks and optimization for the hardware makes the Air 5.0 an energizer bunny of a device. Definitely one of my favorite parts about the device.

Verdict

Get the Unnecto Air 5.0 if you are on a tight budget. The device goes for only $135. It could easily cost more with the internal spec sheet being respectful. Even if you are a power-hungry smartphone user, having the Unnecto Air 5.0 as a second/backup device is more than sufficient. You can purchase the device at the Unnecto website or various other online third-party sellers.
