A lot of speculations arose when Nokia decided to skip US launch this year. But it seems the Finish company wanted to tackle LTE head on in the states. As you know Windows Phone 7.5 mango is not LTE compliant. Though that could change with the Tango update or a specific Mango based update that includes LTE functionality. We do know the Nokia Lumia 710 is coming to T-Mobile. Lets hope it is packed with HSPA+ 42Mbps when it hits. And it stand to assume Verizon will be getting its own LTE variant of the Lumia 800 or maybe the rumored Nokia 900

The reports back up claims from Windows expert Paul Thurrott that Nokia will launch U.S. versions of its handsets in early 2012. Thurrott discussed Nokia’s plans during his Windows Weekly show with fellow Microsoft reporter Mary Jo Foley on November 3. “I have been told that we expect the Nokia U.S. plans to be announced at CES,” said Thurrott. Nokia is believed to be preparing an “Ace” Windows Phone that is similar to the Lumia 800 but features a 4.3-inch AMOLED display. Specifications of the device leaked in early October.
Tango is believed to be an interim release between Windows Phone 7.5 “Mango” and the next-generation of Windows Phone, currently codenamed “Apollo.” Windows Phone build 7.10.8200 was recently discovered in server side logs of a Windows Phone application. A screenshot, believed to be a Tango build, also leaked and demonstrated a new device search feature for Windows Phones. Microsoft’s chasis 2 specifications (Tango) will also include a 480×320 BlackBerry style design and LTE support. The software giant is expected to ship Windows Phone “Apollo” with 1280×720 resolution and dual core CPU support.

PRESS RELEASE

Samsung speeds up the Smarter Life with LTE versions of the GALAXY S II and GALAXY Tab 8.9
SEOUL–(Korea Newswire) August 28, 2011 — Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announced LTE editions of its GALAXY S II and GALAXY Tab 8.9. These stylish devices now offer high-speed 4G connectivity in addition to power, portability and second-to-none screen technology.

“With the introduction of GALAXY S II LTE and GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE, we will take the capabilities of these devices to a whole new level. LTE redefines the user experience made possible by these devices and opens entirely new possibilities in terms of content viewing, sharing, quality and connectivity,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

“This is a milestone in our commitment to lead the charge in 4G mobile telephony around the world, both in terms of back-end network solutions for service providers and the development of powerful consumer handsets,” added Shin.

When connected to a 4G network, LTE technology allows portable devices to download high-quality files at speeds of up to 100Mbps, and to upload at speeds of 50Mbps theoretically – five times faster than even the quickest HSPA+ connection. This means that a four-minute long MP3 track can be downloaded in 0.3 seconds, or an entire film file in less than two minutes.
The enhanced connectivity afforded by LTE technology opens up a range of possibilities for users: Features like social gaming, video conferencing and high-quality media streaming can all be enjoyed seamlessly, with vast improvements in download times and connectivity. 4G technology also enables the seamless and near-instant sharing of multimedia content with friends and family, ensuring that users can share the experiences they love whenever they want.

The addition of LTE to the Samsung GALAXY portfolio also opens further opportunities for mobile application and content developers creating a new generation of mobile services that take full advantage of increased bandwidth and improved connectivity.

GALAXY S II LTE
In addition to offering a high standard of connectivity, the GALAXY S II LTE delivers powerful performance due to its 1.5GHz dual core processor. Superior 3D graphic performance makes games and video consumption fast and smooth, while popular Web pages like Google, Yahoo and YouTube can load easily, giving customers instant access to the information they need.
A 4.5″ Super AMOLED Plus display provides stunning visual clarity, with HD video and images taken on the device’s 8MP camera displayed in full vivid color. The GALAXY S II LTE also offers a rich content experience, with Social, Game and Music hubs all included, while the Readers Hub will be available for download after launch. These are in addition to a number of enterprise solutions aimed at increasing productivity. Running on Android 2.3, the GALAXY S II LTE is easy and intuitive to use.

Additionally, the GALAXY S II LTE can also be connected to up to eight devices via WiFi, meaning that files can be quickly and seamlessly synchronized with laptops, tablets and other Smartphones.

GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE
The LTE edition of the GALAXY Tab 8.9 is incredibly portable, measuring just 8.6mm thin while weighing only 455g. The boosted connectivity and genuine portability ensures that the GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE is the ideal device for modern professionals, who need to stay productive and entertained while on the move. LTE capabilities enable video conferences to be held without need to worry about failing connections, while the 8.9″ screen enables easy rendering of business content such as presentations. The TouchWiz interface enables an intuitive user experience, enhanced by the space and freedom provided by the large display.
Whether writing emails on a trip or reading an eBook in bed, the GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE provides the ultimate tablet experience without compromising mobility.

When Verizon announced its slew of 4G LTE phones and devices at CES 2011, The Thunderbolt was was one of the devices listed as an initial foray into LTE smartphones. The Thunderbolt as a devices takes a close resemblances to the HTC EV, which was released last year. So the question beckon why and old design choice. Simple, it works

HARDWARE

The Thunderbolt comes with a 4.3 WXGA display, with an 8MP rear facing camera that records at 720p with duel LED flash, a 1.3 MP front facing camera for video chat. It is power by the latest 1GHz Snapdragon processor. 32GB pre-installed microSD (which is very nice). Running on Android 2.2 and HTC sense UI, a built in Kickstand which also hides the systems speakers and of course has 4G LTE which speed of 5-12 Mbps on Download and 2 to 5 for uploads ( check out our speed test below) and the ability to generate a wireless hotspot for up to 8 Wi-Fi devices. So does the hardware ware feel like the EVO, No. The Thunderbolt has a refined look to it that evolves from the EVO design, with smoother edges and more metal frame build that gives the device a more business user look.

What you get software wise with the Thunderbolt, is the same Android 2.2 and HTC sense UI experience you have seen with other HTC device. The heavy integration of Sense UI onto Android, helps the causal user interact with the device and find and use feature sets with easy. One new feature set that sense provides is the location of the multitask manager in the notification tray, allowing for easy access to your multitask apps.

As is the trend with android today there are a slew of preinstalled apps on the devices, some of which are useful and some are not:

Pre-Installed Software

Adobe Reader

Bitbop: A subscription service that offers a variety of movies and television shows streamed to your phone,

Blockbuster

City ID: A service that displays the city and state of incoming calls — for the $1.99 they charge after your 15-day free trial expires.

FM Radio: requires a headset be plugged in to use (it doubles as the antenna).

Kindle

Let’s Golf 2: A trial of a 3D golf game with a silly name. $4.99 to buy the full version.

Quickoffice: Full Edition which is nice

Rhapsody

Rock Band: This is shortcut to download a trial version of Rock Band from EA.

Slacker Radio

TuneWiki

V CAST Apps

V CAST Media

VZ Navigator

Camera Pictures

Below you will find stills and video recording from the 1.3MP front facing Camera and the 8MP rear camera.

Conclusion

So what do I think of the Thunderbolt, I will peg it as currently the best device on Verizon’s network at the moment. Yes it does have one main draw back which still plagues Android devices; battery life. though did get a solid 8hrs with moderate use.

Other than that the device is sleek, it runs really fast with the 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, its got a lovely 8MP camera and a very useful and crisp 1.3MP camera for video chat. and yes the 4GLTE speeds are ridiculously fast and that makes the device a most have on just that merit alone. Definitely a worth buy, especially with amazon selling The Thunderbolt for $130 with a 2yr contract.
