HTC ANNOUNCES HTC TITAN II —

HTC’S FIRST 4G LTE WINDOWS PHONE

HTC’s LTE Portfolio Expands With Fourth LTE Smartphone;

Latest Windows Phone from HTC to Run on AT&T’s 4G LTE Network in U.S.

LAS VEGAS — Jan. 9, 2012 — At the 2012 International CES, HTC Corp. today introduced the HTC TITAN™ II as the company’s first Windows Phone to run on a 4G LTE network. Available in the coming months to AT&T customers, the smartphone includes the largest display among Windows Phones, an advanced 16-megapixel digital camera and access to 4G LTE* speeds.

“HTC’s history of innovation in 4G technology includes delivering the first 4G-powered devices to each major carrier in the U.S., so it is exciting today to continue that leadership with our first 4G LTE Windows Phone, the HTC TITAN II,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corp. “This full-featured smartphone combines HTC’s design with AT&T’s high-speed 4G LTE network and Microsoft’s powerful Windows Phone software, giving people more of what they crave.”

The HTC TITAN II comes equipped with a brilliant 4.7-inch super LCD capacitive touchscreen display for an optimized viewing experience when watching movies, playing games or enjoying photos and videos. The HTC TITAN II offers quick and easy access to the latest movies and TV shows via HTC Watch and on-the-go gaming with Xbox LIVE.

Packed with advanced imaging technology, the HTC TITAN II features a 16-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, autofocus, dual LED flash, red eye reduction, image stabilization, a backside-illuminated sensor and a physical camera button, offering a viable replacement for digital point-and-shoot cameras. The HTC TITAN II delivers a number of features that HTC has developed to help consumers capture photos in a variety of conditions; for instance, panoramic shot for sweeping landscapes and burst shot for action photography. The smartphone also enables 720p HD video recording with the rear-facing camera, as well as on-the-go video chat over Wi-Fi with its 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Access to AT&T’s speedy 4G LTE network paired with Qualcomm’s 1.5 GHz Snapdragon™ S2 processor, enables the HTC TITAN II to deliver fast Web surfing, streaming and downloading. This new powerful smartphone will also feature a 1,730mAh lithium ion battery to support the robust mobile experience on one of the fastest 4G LTE networks.

Featuring the latest version of Windows Phone, the HTC TITAN II enhances connectivity, efficiency and productivity for busy consumers with its large on-screen keyboard and instant access to Windows Phone Office Hub, Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Outlook Mobile. The Live Tile display brings friend and family groups to life and delivers the latest updates and news from popular social networks directly to the home screen. HTC TITAN II customers will also be able to download a number of exclusive HTC applications for free within Windows Marketplace through HTC Hub.

The HTC TITAN II is expected to become available exclusively from AT&T in the U.S. in the coming months.

The state of the mobile market 2011

It’s been a massive year for mobile tech! We’ve seen Web OS become Web Open Source, love what they did there; WP7 Mango got released, which is apparently a big deal; Ice Cream Sandwich has been released to the world and the iPhone 4S was a massive disappointment. RIM is apparently still around but I don’t believe the rumors.

For the four big players: IOS, Android, WP7 and Blackberry 2011 has been a pretty interesting year. Steve Jobs’ death has been one of the big events of the year, and it has certainly put a flavor on how the companies are going to be in 2012. I personally think that his death affected Apple much more than it has been speculated. Let’s face it the iPhone 4S was a massive anti-climax. Even the most devout Apple fan-boy did a slight double take when it was released and let out a soft exclamation of disappointment. But that’s just the iPhone 4S, much of the rest of this year has been full of wonderful updates, surprises, evolutions and improvements.

WP7 had its Mango update, I have never used WP7 for more than five minutes in a shop, but the interface is pretty slick and according to all my mates with WP7 devices Mango has shunted the OS into relevance for early 2012, which is nice. I don’t mean to sound dismissive, I love the fact Microsoft is trying to get back into the smartphone market. The more the merrier in my opinion; I love Android too much to switch anytime soon but think that the more choice that the consumer has the better it is for everyone. I used WM back in the day and it had some really awesome aspects to it, so it’s nice to Microsoft keeping its toe in the door.

Talking of doors, Rim and its Blackberry OS. I think the door is closing as we move into 2012. From personal experience it is clear to see that Rim is loosing market share. Putting graphs, data and pie charts to one-side and looking at my friend group it is pretty apparent. Granted this is one demographic of publicly educated predominantly British teenagers, but it shows a pretty clear trend. Four years ago BlackBerrys were “cool” BBM was everywhere and Blackberry was the place to be. The odd person had an iPhone but they were generally considered to be more of a PSP or iPod alternative for the rich kids, BlackBerrys were for the uber sociable average teen. The two of us with Android phones, two HTC Heroes back in the day, were thought pretty alternative and individual. However fast-forward to the present day and everyone I know who had a Blackberry has either got rid of it and migrated to the iPhone or Android, or has got a Blackberry purely for BBM but a cheap ‘throw-away’ phone for everyday use as their Blackberry just isn’t reliable or robust enough. This is where it has been for all of 2011, and despite releasing the odd new handset RIM has failed to make any drastic changes or improvements to Blackberry and I think it is probably on the way out. At risk of sounding sage and whimsical I think that this time next year Blackberry will either be floundering in it’s last throws or gone the same way as WebOS; HTC built Blackberry phone anyone?

And finally Android. This has been Android’s year, no doubt about it. We’ve seen dual-core, had a little taste of quad-core, been dazzled by 720p HD screens and generally had a great time. I currently use an SGS2 and, I always say this when I have a new phone, but if I wasn’t a geek I would have no desire to upgrade it for a few years. I think it is the best phone on the planet right now, it’s light and fast with a gorgeous screen, what else do you want on a phone? I’m obviously something of a fan-boy boy but this year Android has grown at a huge rate, phones and tablets have become more powerful than anyone could have foreseen at the start of 2011, and the updates Google has made has kept the OS at the top of its game. Google have worked wonders with the market, integrating Google Music and tidying up the front end on both portable devices and in browser. ICS, though far from perfect, is a great update to android, the UI looks slick and the whole OS looks much more streamlined and unified. The soft buttons could be a good thing in future iterations of the OS, but I think their need to be a few changes to make me really want a phone with no hardware buttons. But on the whole I think the update has struck all the right notes. Role on ICS for the SGS2!

To sum up: I think RIM is going down; Apple will have to do something brilliant in the new year (and stop suing people); Android is marching smartly on and I look forward to seeing how WP7 continues to evolve over 2012.

The HTC Rezound is the first HTC device to sport a720p display and will be the First device on Verizon Network to have a HD display. Its got a 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD display (yes a HD screen). Powered by a 1.5 Dual-core Processor. It camera has an F2.2 lens with low light sensor at 8 Megapixels. recording at 1080p and a VGA Front Facing Camera for video chat. Storage; its got 32GB (with 16GB microSD and 16GB on-board storage). Its got Sense 3.5 and the U.I experience so far seem looks and feels fast. The HTC Rezound is also a 4G LTE device on the Verizon network and doe sallow user to create a Hotspot for up to 8 devices.

The HTC Rezound is also the first US smartphone to sport Beats audio by Dr Dre; which is know for its premium studio audio. So what does it add to the device, in terms of audio? Short answer is Yes. But I can tell you first hand that the audio quality off the Rezound is impressive, with or without the Beats by Dr Dre headphones provided with the Rezound, The sound quality is clean clear and without distortion. Now we know every smartphone out there has a built in music player, but that doesn’t guarantee it sounds good or you would love to listen to your favorite tunes on the devices. I can tell you that is just not the case with the Rezound. Music is vivid and fresh, movies feel like your right in the thick of things in the middle of all the action. In short the addition of Beats by Dr Dre add and extra entertainment dimension to the HTC Rezound.

So we know listen to audio on the device is great, how about the new Super LCD 720p HD display. Yes this is actually the first device on Verizon network to sport a 720p HD display, before the Galaxy Nexus. I can tell you the screen has its ups and does., it shines well with movies, especially watch a movies that is bright and has fewer dark scenes; with photos you really don’t notice the difference. Though the 8 Megapixel camera with its F2.2 lens takes some very and I mean very Stella photos and I mean stellar.

Battery life is an area where HTC has improved a lot with the Rezound, I got upwards of 16hrs with heavy use and about 24 hrs + on standby. Which is huge improvement from some other HTC device that barely last 8 hours. As you know this is also a 4G LTE device on the Verizon network, clocking speeds of up to 25Mbps downloads and 8Mbps uploads. Over the HTC REzound has some flaws, with an ok HD display and poor audio the on HD recording(serious HTC please fix this).

On the flip side, listen to music and watch movies on this device is and audio dream with clean crisp sound and the battery life is also great. So in all though flawed, the HTC Rezound provides and audio experience second to non-in the smartphone space.

The Vivid sports a 4.5-inch Super LCD qHD display powered by a dual core 1.2 GHz processor, has an enhanced 8-megapixel camera with f2.2 28mm wide-angle lens for low light photos and a front facing camera for video chat. Running Android 2.3.4 and Sense U.I l Storage. The Vivid’s style is reminisant of a larger Evo than Recent HTC devices, which have had rounded edges., its also a thicker device and heaver too. An indications of most LTE devices.

The HTC Vivid 4G has an 8 megapixel camera which records at 1080p and takes pictures with a F/2.2 lens. Which enables the phone to take some great looking pics,. But on the video recording side, it is a different story entirely. The video quality at 1080p is spectacular but the audio leaves a lot to be desired and limits what can be constituted as a quality video for the Vivid from HTC. you can view the Photos and video here

On 4G LTE, the HTC Vivid 4G shines; initially clocking speeds of up to 34 Mbps and now doing a steady diet of 20Mbos per second. of course that is dependent on location and AT&T 4G LTE service coverage. The HTC Vivid is a nice device, but its flaw its is generic feel from a composition of HTC spare parts. it doe some things well and others not and in the end , it does feel like an adequate device without a whole lot of spark.

As the name implies this is a 4G capable handset on the T-Mobile HSPA+ network. The Radar 4G is a Windows Phone 7.5 mango device,; meaning its running the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS that has some very cool features with deep Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn integration.

The HTC Radar sports a 3.8-inch touchscreen with 480×800 resolution, powered by a 1Ghz processor with 512MB Ram and 8GB of Internal Storage. The HTC Radar 4G is a 14.4Mbps device on the T-Mobile network. 5-megapixel camera with F2.2 lens, LED flash, and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures). Front camera: VGA front camera. HD video recording: 720p HD.

First off this is a well built device with a nice slim unibody design, that HTC has made famous with a lot of their devices. The lower part of the device does have a slight lip that gives it a distinct design difference. As mentioned earlier it does have a 5-megapixel camera with a f2./2 camera with LED Flash, which should allow you to take some clear and sharp pic.(Good to see HTC make the F/2.2 lens standard on all their devices. The HTC Radar 4G comes with 8GB of on board storage that is not expandable via microSD, but within the system it shows up as 6GB in total

Camera

The Radar 4G has a 5- megapixel camera that records at 720p. which is the standard record rate for all Windows Phone devices ( Microsoft Why?). It does have an f/2.2 lens with LED flash that allows the camera to take some very nice pictures especially with the wide angle lens giving it better lighting. The camera also has some more advanced setting compared to other windows phone devices, giving you the ability to take panorama shots and burst shots. A sample recording of about a minute is within the video review. and you an check out some of the high quality still below.

The HTC Radar 4G is a great piece of hardware crafted by HTC for T-Mobile network , that brings Windows Phone to like especially with mango update. There are many aspects of the device and software that make it a wonderful phone. The in-app integration coupled with the very deep Facebook integration, keeps you ever connected to the people who are important to you. The camera app updated provide by HTC adds more to the user experience and does yield some very good stills and video recording. Battery life is fantastic, dare I say it for a HTC device. The are some negatives to point out. The lack of 42Mbps HSPA+ speeds is something that is truly missed on the OS’s very smooth experience, only 8GB( actually 6G, with no expandable memory option, and lack of 1080p recording.

With all that withstanding, I would not hesitate to recommend the Radar 4G to anyone. It is a smooth mobile experience to doesn’t hold you down combined with a solid piece of hardware from HTC.

The HTC Radar 4G comes with 8GB of on board storage that is not expandable via microSD, which is a complete bummer(Really HTC, I would like to transfer my photos from my mytouch 4G Slide). Overall I like the feel of the HTC Radar 4G, It is a solidly built device and a nice addition to the Windows Phone family on T-Mobile. enjoy our unboxing and stay tuned for our full review
