8 Jan 2012
Acer Unveils World’s Thinnest Ultrabook: Aspire S5

Acer unveiled the world’s thinnest Ultrabook with the Aspire S5, an ultra-slim device that measures only 15 mm at the maximal point. It weighs less than 1.35 kg (less than 3 lbs.) and is built with a 13.3-inch (34 cm) LCD. In addition, it features the unique Acer Green Instant On technology for fast boot and resume, and Acer Always Connect, which lets users manage their multimedia and data on all their devices at anytime, anywhere – even from sleep.
“The Ultrabook is much more than just a product segment,” said Jim Wong, president of Acer Inc. “It’s a new trend that will become the mainstream for mobile PCs, and customers will see the unique features gradually extended across Acer’s notebook family.”

Instantly on and always connected
Innovative Acer Green Instant On and Acer Always Connect technologies enable data upload and retrieval anytime, anywhere, and deliver power-saving features as well.
Acer Green Instant On provides instant-resume functionality (in 1.5 seconds) and ensures battery life that lasts several weeks.

Acer Always Connect gets users online faster than conventional connections for better productivity and infotainment enjoyment. With their Facebook, Twitter and Outlook email accounts open, users can see updates instantly upon resuming. Furthermore, Acer Always Connect can wake up the Aspire S5 from a remote device like a smartphone. Access to all documents, music, pictures and video files is fast and always available.

Ultra-fluid contours
Adorned with a delicately curved chassis in Onyx Black, the Aspire S5′s cover rim wraps around the system body like a protective shell. A magnesium-aluminum alloy cover and palmrest provide a slimmer and sturdier form, while the metallic brushed detail presents subtle elegance. The clean and ultra-fluid contours seen from all angles make the S5 a vision of beauty.
Magical I/O port panel

The Aspire S5 is Acer’s first Ultrabook to feature a smartly designed MagicFlip I/O port panel concealed just below the hinge. This design feature enhances the overall slenderness and streamlined form of the S5. When needed, a press of the MagicFlip key opens the panel to reveal a selection of I/O ports: HDMI®, USB 3.0 and 20 Gbps Thunderbolt.
Performance and eco-friendly features

The Aspire S5 features an Intel® Core™ processor, SSD storage for speed and increased shock resistance, professionally-tuned Dolby® Home Theater® v4, long battery life via the PowerSmart battery pack (with a 3X longer life cycle1 than traditional batteries), and is equipped with a chiclet keyboard.
The Aspire S5 will start shipping in Q2 2012.

The device is small an compact, with two parts. A USB dongle for laptop attachment and a small module called a shark fin for TV connection, with HDMI connection, VGA , audio out. One thing I really like about the system is once connected, there is no need to make screen adjustment on your TV, as is with other wireless pc extenders. your laptop image fit perfectly on the screen on first go.

The demo also includes wireless storage solution for the system that showed the versatility of the Nowire system. I can’t wait to get my hands on the Alereon Nowire wireless HDMI pc Extender, it will fit perfectly in my idea home entertainment setup.

Atlona Technologies, solutions based manufacturer of Audio Video accessories, has consistently created products that will allow users easy and affordable means of connecting their PC to their HDTV without spending a fortune on new video cards or expensive boxes that perform this task as a secondary function. In suit, Atlona has added to their ever growing product line with their newest Switcher/Scaler, the AT-HDVieW. This new unit designed to take both video and audio signal from a PC or Laptop, and upscale it to a digital HDMI output, was specifically made for the retail market. Users looking to upscale their computer viewing experience through their home entertainment center can now use the HDVieW to easily adapt their VGA outputs into HDMI. Operating this device is as simple as plug and play, due to the units ability to automatically sense the native resolution of the desired display and scale the computer’s output to match it.

The HDVieW offers a wide-range HDTV and PC resolutions, up to 1080p or 1920×1200 and will take audio signal from the computer and embedded it into the HDMI signal output, so that user is able to enjoy both audio and video though one cable. The HDVieW is a scaler-converter, which means that it will always work without any adjustments to the video card software in addition to that the video quality will be dramatically increased due to the built-in high quality scaler. Unlike many other scalers and converters on the market, this product has pigtail extensions attached with VGA, Audio and USB cables as to save the hassle of purchasing more cable. USB powered, this unit does not require additional power supplies. With limitless applications for both consumer and commercial applications, this competitively priced Scaler/Converter will find its way into any home.

The new AT-HDVieW will be available at the end of February with an affordable MRSP or $119.00 and is currently available for pre-order.

CHATSWORTH, CA – The leader in digital connectivity solutions today announced its GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz extender is shipping. This sender/receiver system is the fourth product from Gefen offering wireless video connectivity. It joins three other wireless products already shipping: the GefenTV Wireless for VGA; Gefen Wireless for HDMI UWB; and GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 5Ghz extenders.
The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz employs innovative multi-antenna technology from SiBEAM that enables HDMI extension supporting full HD resolutions at 1080p. This is the first wireless solution from Gefen that is uncompressed at the 3Ghz bandwidth, making it well suited for demanding applications like gaming. Multi-channel audio is delivered alongside the video with support for many HDMI v1.3 features.

Gamers will appreciate its low latency, and its ability to deliver vibrant resolutions with multi-channel audio in the HDMI format. Yet the system also works well using a computer with DVI connections.
A one-to-one signal transmission of HDMI up to 30 feet (10 meters) in distance makes it ideal for in-room applications. The system is particularly desirable for any integrator who wants to avoid in-wall cable runs or needs to do a retrofit installation.

The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz extender comes with HDCP compliance, support for CEC protocols, an RS-232 port for easy control or convenient Internet access to firmware updates and an IR remote for turning power on/off.

We take the device through its pace in this review, testing out its distance functioanlity as as well video and audio quality. I admit we did have some technical issues during the review with he sound quality processed by the device. We contacted Atlona , who assured us were working to resolve the audio issues. Also to note, the customer service was great in helping me resolve the issue and it does come with a 3 year warranty. Hope you enjoy the review.
