The Motorola Droid XYBOARD 8.2 is the sequel to the ill launched Motorola Xoom, and the first Motorola Tablet to take the Droid name. This tablet packs the regular features you will find in an standard Android 3.2 tablet. it sports a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash 7 a mini HDMI-out. It also sports a high definition IPS display. the XYBAORD 8.2 is a 4G LTE device and is capable of creating a hot sport for up to 8 devices.

The Droid XYBOARD is a very slim device, taking design cues from the Droid Razr, it is sleek and slim, with corner edges matching the Razr . there are no buttons on the front of the device, with the the power and Vol. toggle are at the back of the XYBOARD 8.2. The XYBOARD  8.2 is splash resistant, to protect from water damage, its has also got a soft rubberized coating around the edge of the device.

The Droid XYBOARD 8.2 is a better refresh from the Motorola Xoom, design wise the 8.2-inch Android tablet feels more comfortable and easier to handle; that being said the Droid XYBOARD 8.2 does experience some slow downs, and though 4G LTE was great on the device, using it as a hopspot  present some issues with lost data connections. The Droid XYBOARD is a a reliable tablet and does a decent number on battery life at about 8hrs. Still there is a lot more Motorola could have done with this tablet to make it more than adequate

The Asus Transformer Prime is the Latest Android tablet and we were blessed with an Android 4.0 update during the Unboxing. The Transformer Prime is a 8.3mm thick table and weighs only 566g that house the Tegra 3 ka-el chip, a Quad-core processor, great for gaming on the go and will provide smooth operations to the system. It uses a Super IPS display with a 178 degree viewing angle with Gorilla glass .

An 8 Megapixel camera in the rear and a 1.2 megapixel camera in the front  for video chat. 1080p recording with the rear camera and a back illuminated CMOS sensor for taking photos in low light and better video recording. 32/64GB of inbuilt storage plus cloud storage in from Asus.

The Hardware of the Asus transformer primes is sleek, polish and well refined. The power button is located at the top of the device, with the volume toggles on the left of the device, the 10-inch Asus Transformer prime has a thick bezel and is very finger print happy. There is also a microSD slot, giving you the ability to expand your storage options beyond the capacity listed for the device.  overall I think the hardware is solid, its light  and easy to use, though it has a thick bezel and is not finger print friendly. It is still a well crafted device

Prime Camera Test

The Asus Transformer Primes has an 8 megapixel camera with an LED flash,  making it the highest megapixel camera found on a tablet to date. So we give the camera a test run to see how will it functions, In taking video and stills. It should be noted the camera has the ability to record in time-lapse as it is standard on all Android 4.0 devices, as we saw on the Galaxy Nexus . Enjoy this  1080p camera test.

Conclusion

The Asus Transformer Prime is a power machine, the fact Asus was able to cram in the Tegra 3(Kal-el) chip  into such a thin profile and form factor is something to take note, the device runs like a dream, of course during our review we were running Android 4.0 on the tablet.  Operations were smooth and efficient, the device is built for mobile gaming handling different games with ease. Battery life is impeccable, considering you have a quad-core processor in the Asus Transformer prime, I still got up to 1hrs of battery life. It also helps that the Asus UI overlay on Android 4.0 gives you options to toggle your CPU usage, as well as the brightness on the Super IPS display. Which might I add is fantastic outdoors.  Overall the Asus Transformer Prime has set the Gold standard in 2012 for android based tablets, with power, efficiency and overall design. The Toshiba Excite X10 is a 10.1-inch tablet with a 1280×800 resolution display, dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP 4430 CPU, 1GB RAM, micro HDMI, microSD and micro USB connectivity and front-and-rear camera @ 5 megapixels. Battery life is expected to last for up to 8 hours. The most notable feature ia how thin this tablet is at only be 0.3 inches (7.62mm) thick. For comparison, the iPad 2 is 0.346 inches (8.8mm) thick. The fact that Toshiba was able to include dual cameras and a number of physical connectivity options on such a thin tablet , which is quite impressive.
The Excite X10 will start at $529 and $599 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively, with a scheduled release sometime by the end of Q1 2012. Still, for such a high starting price of $529

Project Fiona is Razer first entry into the Tablet Gaming world, The gaming accessory maker as introduced another Gaming PC concept that it hopes will revolutionize  the PC marketing in Portable gaming via the Tablet. Project Fiona, is a full fledged tablet with PC gaming controls that you can take with you on the go, just like with the Razer Switchblade concept, Project Fiona is not a final mass market model and well definitely see changes before release. Project Fiona is powered by a Core i7 processor and Windows 8, designed to play “most popular PC games of today,” and THX audio, but details are light beyond that. The press release still lists this as a proof of concept design, and with a year to release, these things are of course subject to change. Razer does plan on releasing it, however, and it’s targeting a Q4 2012 release priced under $1,000.

Amazon has done a great job in combing their service; from Kindle books, music and Video on demand as well as a smooth an robust browser to give individuals all the need at their finger tips. Plus the 4200 price tag really makes it a brainer and an ultimate impulse purchase for a tablet. So there you have it the Kindle fire is our winner and the Tablet of choice between it and the nook Tablet.

The Nook tablet’s interface is very reminiscent of an Android 2.3 Tablet interface, it allows for a lot of personal customization. You can access your music, or movies on the device stored via microsd card( as you are only allotted 1GBB of on board storage on the nook) The Nook Tablet interface is honestly everywhere, multiple access points to get to where you want. which isn’t a bad thing but it does seem a bit confusing. Though it runs very smooth, the 1GB of Ram and the dual core processor. do a nice job of ensuring a smooth experience. It does what it is built to do well; as an ereader the Nook tablet is smooth and flawless,

The Nook tablet isn’t bad, it just feels rushed on the user presentation side of things. it’s a very capable tablet and one that should be given a good look.

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus has no physical buttons and like all Honeycomb tablets, resorts to onscreen controls. The Tab has an ir sensor which should allow the device to control an remote controlled electronic device in your home.  It also feels very light in your hands an comfortable to hold .

It comes pre-installed with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus., this with the aid of the IR sensor, allows the user to take control of any of your home electronics that uses an IR remote, (i.e DVD, Blu-ray, AV receiver, TV, Cablebox). The set-up process is relatively ease, just follow the instructions. The Smart remote app, gives you a visual view of what is playing on your TV at that point in time, allowing you to control and jump into the show of your choice. You can also add shows to favorite listing and share what you are watching to friends on Facebook & Twitter. You can also search for shows by genre and time slot. In all it is a very fun effective tool

The Samsung galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a true solid Honeycomb Tablet. It runs as smooth as other Samsung Tablet and its size definition puts it closer to the ereader market. The really aren’t any flaws to the device other than the price point at $399. If this was priced at between $325 & $350. I would say Samsung Has a clear winner here; with it IR functionality combined with all the Android 3.2 features. But its price point is a little high and with the mounted competition out there from the Kindle Fire & the Nook. This might be the best tablet that will be passed up during the Christmas period.

Amazon feel they have the right combination with its product and services to create something that will define an era and Christmas of 2011.  So let take a look at the Kindle fire to see what this $200  Android 2.3 Tablet offering brings to the table that is so disruptive.

Hardware

The Kindle Fire has a 7-inch IPS display with Gorilla glass coating, weighs approximately 14.6 ounces, its got 8 Gb of storage (actually 6GB), with unlimited cloud storage. It is a Wi-Fi capable tablet, no Bluetooth or 3G.The first thing you will notice about the Kindle Fire is the lack of physical button anywhere on the device, its got one and that is the power button, The whole system is enclosed, so the battery is not removable, there are no cameras in the front or in the rear. An Initial Look at the amazon UX; it very simple everything is in front of you, You have got one home screen and it is easy to access all aspect of the device. Kindle Fire OS & Browser

The first thing you will notice with the Kindle Fire once you turn it on is the singular  home screen, with a notification bar on top that slides down when tapped on the right to reveal your volume, brightness  Wi-Fi, Sync and setting controls; as well as quick music controls. Tapping on the upper left hand corner which shows your name  when a number is highlighted bring sup your download notification screen. Below the notification bar is your search bar and category row. You can search within the device as well as the web. Your categories are broken down to Newsstand, Books, Music, Video, Docs, Apps (Amazon App store not Android app Store), Web( Silk Browser).  More here in our OS Walkthrough

Conclusion

The Kindle Fire is what you would call, the amalgamation of the Tablet era. It is not without its flaws which are obvious. For the sometimes unresponsiveness, dude to its 512MB of ram to the lack of an external storage source to expand on the 8GB internal memory( though you do have unlimited cloud storage). I still found myself drown to the Kindle Fire, which might be due to Amazon’s simplification of Android 2.3 and the combined effectiveness from Amazon’s cloud services that all for my VOD to play within seconds and the easy access of all my music stored in the cloud was also very helpful. So may say it has many issues that keep it away from being the iPad killer

In all the Kindle Fire is a flawed device like any other. What Amazon has created is a beat of a different styling, one that is a true merging of services and product, better than what Apple has to offer and simpler too. Which is key. The Kindle Fire is a grown up Kindle and does pretend to be a killer tablet. What it is; is a gateway device in providing Amazon Video, music, books and other service on a Tablet platform under Android with the ease of use.
